Week 1 Overview – Prayer for Spiritual Growth

Fasting Focus

This week’s fast is designed to help us develop a daily discipline of devotion and prayer.  Our desire is not only to seek the blessings of Jesus, but rather grow in our relationship with Him.  This week, you will be encouraged to ReDIRECT your focus from what you can get from God to simply enjoying spending time with Him.  This will be accomplished through setting aside intentional time in devotion and prayer for the purpose of spiritual growth.

These first three days, you are encouraged to skip one meal a day (Wednesday – Friday) and use that time as an appointment with God.  You are welcome to choose any meal that best suits your schedule and it is not necessary that you skip the same meal each day.   Each day, use the time you would have spent in purchasing, preparing, and consuming food as a devoted time with God.

Action Step Suggestions.

    • Read your daily Scripture reading and ReDIRECT devotional.
    • Pray about how today’s readings apply to your life.
    • Spend time meditating and reflecting on God’s direction.
    • Memorize this week’s memory verse.
    • Begin journaling what you sense God is saying to you through ReDIRECT.

Plan Ahead

Each Saturday you will be encouraged to participate in a service project to put into action what you have been praying about.  This week, be thinking and praying about a neighbor in your community that you could serve through an act of kindness this coming Saturday.

Memory Verse

“Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”                               – Romans 12:1-2
