Week Five – Day 5
TODAY’S FAST – Fast from All Junk Foods, Desserts, Sweets, and Sodas
Today we are focused on the race again. And just like runners in a marathon, we are not running the race alone. First of all, we have the people around us – other Christians. It is interesting that it is impossible to spell Christian with only one “I.” We cannot be a Christian by ourselves. Being a Christian is being a part of a body – the Body of Christ, the Church.
Second, we have the members of the Body of Christ that are no longer running alongside of us. These are the Christians who have gone before us and who are no longer in this world. We believe that in Christ we are all connected. And so, even though they do not run next to us, they are still with us in the race, to pray for us.
Last, but most important, we have Jesus Himself. He does not let us run the race alone. Jesus became one of us and lived a human life with all of its ups and downs and twists and turns. He knows what it is like to run this race, and He reached the finish line before us. He runs with us and will get us to the end. Whenever we think that we cannot make it to the end, we need only to turn to Him and He will show us the Way!
Pray for perseverance in your race of faith, that you may finish strong and honor and glorify God in your life.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” –Hebrews 12:1-3 NIV
