Week Three – Day 5
TODAY’S FAST – After school or work, fast from all media technology including video games, tv, computers, and internet to spend quality time with God and your family.
Devotional:
My mother is a knitter. When she watches TV, she is knitting, crocheting, or doing needle work. When we were younger, during sporting events, Mom was knitting. She would make sweaters, blankets, toboggans, pictures, or some other project. If someone came by her and grabbed her creation and destroyed it, witnesses would be outraged. The perpetrator could argue that it was not a sweater yet, it was just a blob of yarn. It was not a hat if it was not complete. Sounds a little crazy, doesn’t it?
How do you think God feels when someone destroys His creation? How do you think He feels when a baby He is knitting together in its mother’s womb—a place that should be a sanctuary, a safe place—is grabbed and destroyed? Its life is snuffed out before it even draws its first breath.
Every person is wonderfully made by God. Even with our flaws, even with what we call disabilities, we are God’s creation: seen by Him before we are born, loved by Him as His children, even from conception. He has a plan for each person.
If our culture of infanticide is going to change, the Church must be the voice for these babies who cannot stand up for themselves. We must support women in crisis pregnancies and give them options other than abortion. We must also support women who have had abortions, offering grace, forgiveness, and healing. You and I must pray for and speak up in support of unborn babies.
Prayer Focus:
Pray for unborn babies; for protection in their mother’s womb; for an end to abortion-on-demand in America; and for babies to be born into homes and families where they are welcomed, loved, and cherished.
Key Verse:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Psalm 139:13-16 NIV
